Our three-stage hybrid design framework uses AI to enhance research data synthesis and streamline problem statement generation.
1. IMAGINE
We analyse and synthesize research data gathered in Explore to create user-centred outputs that detail who our users are and the requirements they have. Outputs include personas, empathy maps, user needs and journey maps. Throughout this stage we ensure that the definitions of the design challenges are human centred. Needs statements are attributed to personas and a master list of user needs created for each persona.
Finally this master list is prioritised according to various criteria, such as relevance to project outcome, technological feasibility and business viability. This provides the ‘areas to focus on’, and the activities where solutions are found to meet the needs statements.
2. MAKE
In this stage, we advocate bringing users into the ideation process to generate ideas, in facilitated co-design workshops or one-to-one sessions. In this way users, as 'experts' of their own experience, become central to the design process. We take ideas from the ideation phase to generate prototypes and low fidelity (rough) concepts which are tested with them to learn what works and to spark new ideas in an iterative process until the designs reach maturity.
3. LEARN
This stage takes new insights that can help refine the design and in some cases even redefine the problem being solved, leading to a review in the Imagine and Make stages. After beta testing and launch of the product, we continue to stay engaged with real users, reviewing data of interactions and usage to monitor performance, and to highlight usability shortfalls.
